Just wrapped up SPX in Bethesda, and I WON THE IGNATZ for Best Online comic!!! SPX and those awards (and the comic for which it is named) mean so much to me and really appreciate the award.
Vattu book 3 begins today. This one is a big one, and we’re starting out with the first look so far at the absolute upper echelons of Sahta’s government. Thank you all for bearing with me during the break. I’m looking forward to getting into the thick of this book.
The Oz project is wrapping up and a book is happening soon. My Patreon has cleared 300 a month, so everybody who pledges within the month will get a ton of sketchbook pdfs. I’m feeling good and optimistic about the things I am working on, and I really appreciate you reading.
Updates will be a little less frequent for the near future, as I suddenly have a big secret thing to work on for the next few weeks. Here for now is the new Vattu Character Guide though, finally!
San Diego Comic Con is coming up next week; I’ll be there at table 1334 with Becky & Frank, Tyler, Zach, David, and maybe others of whom I am not aware??? It’s the Big One.
My Wizard of Oz book is finally available online now!! It’s being handled by the fine Topatoco people; more will be going on there in the near future.
For the past year, I’ve been illustrating L. Frank Baum’s novel the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and now I’m getting it printed as a nice hardcover book!! You can check out the Kickstarter and preorder the book if you like, and I’d really appreciate any help in getting the word out! Thank you so much.
It was a very fun project, and low-intensity enough that I did ok at juggling it with Vattu and other things. It’s a very fun book if you haven’t read it; much weirder and more dreamlike than the movie or other popular adaptations… I tried to emphasize the sense of being lost in a vast, colorful place in the illustrations. There’s about 100 of them and you can see them and some process at this blog here.
Two pages today, before I go off the grid for a week with my family! I’ll be back on Monday the 25th, with more Vattu and the launch of the Rice Boy Rerun Blog!
In the very near future, a certain Kickstarter I’m involved in will be launching, and I’ll be attending CAKE in Chicago, and Heroes Con in Charlotte. See you soon!
Vattu will resume on Monday, September 15! Thank you everyone for your patience; this one’s a tricky one and I’ve gotten a lot of writing done in the break. I’ve also made MUCH PROGRESS on the Oz project. There will be a book SOON; I’ll have some more to say about that shortly. And I’ve started a PATREON, for any readers who would like to pledge a dollar or two a month for me to keep chipping away at all of the various work I’m putting online. It’s already going quite well and I’m super grateful! Thank you for reading and having a look at that!
SPX in Bethesda, MD, is the next convention I’ll be at: this weekend, September 13 and 14. This is one of my favorite conventions, full of work I love and don’t see at enough other shows, AND it’s doubled in size pretty recently. I hope you can make it, if you’re in the area! Vattu was also nominated this year for an Ignatz Award, which means a lot to me. Very excited!!!
Thanks everyone for bearing with me during the break. The SECOND HALF OF VATTU starts in a week. Tell your friends and countrymen.
Covers of books 1 and 2 of Vattu….
The Kickstarter for Vattu: The Sword & the Sacrament is happening now!!!
You can preorder the second book, or get both at once, and help make this book a reality. It’s been years since the first one came out and I’m really excited to make this happen finally!
